Relux Project Case 001
Light gives buildings a special effect - especially landmarks such as Neuschwanstein Castle. This world-famous fairytale castle was illuminated with a specially developed lighting design that brings the character of the building into the night. Using RELUX software, the team at Ingenieure Bamberger was able to emphasise the architectural subtleties of the castle while taking into account the strict requirements of a nature reserve. This project impressively demonstrates how modern technology and historical architecture can harmonise.

Neuschwanstein Castle, the iconic building of King Ludwig II, is admired by millions of visitors every year. But when night falls, the aim was to preserve the magic of the castle while minimising the impact on the surrounding nature. The challenges ranged from the lighting design in a protected natural area to the consideration of nocturnal animals.
Thanks to the RELUX software, the experts were able to develop a precise and sustainable lighting design. 47 LED spotlights at 12 locations illuminate the facades of the castle, with the light colour of 4000 Kelvin and a high colour rendering index emphasising the historical character. Control via DALI enables flexible scenarios, such as the castle's ‘going to rest’ function, in which the lighting is dimmed in a harmonious sequence.
Particular attention was paid to minimising light pollution in order to protect the habitat of the local wildlife. At the same time, the aim remained to make the castle an impressive and detailed experience, even from a distance.
The property is embedded in a nature reserve. It was therefore an additional challenge to harmonise the lighting design with all the conditions.

Visualisation with real-time renderer by Enscape
An impressive visualisation helps to better market a project. The Enscape real-time renderer in ReluxDesktop offers an attractive presentation option for this purpose. This is included free of charge in the latest version. Day and night and the position of the sun can be set. Photorealistic visualisations are possible if the textures on the objects are also assigned accordingly. Luminaires can be moved in ReluxDektop and the position and effect is shown in real time in a separate display window.
Measure and calculate light pollution
Light pollution can be easily calculated and planned. With the ObtrusiveLight add-on for ReluxDesktop, the following norms and standards can be complied with: CIE 150:2017, SN-EN 12464-2:2014, SN-EN 12193, ÖNORM O 1052:2022, NSVV Lichthinder 2023 and LAI 2012. Using measurement surfaces and a light dome, light pollution can also be assessed visually, taking the standards into account.
